11 Days Venice and Croatia Honeymoon Itinerary

Is there anywhere more romantic than Venice? Gondola rides, walking arm in arm across the piazzas and along the canals? Dining a deux in a cozy osteria? Where better to start your once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon? After 3 nights in Venice you will fly to Split on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast to begin a week of exploration together, from the quaint old walled town of Trogir followed by Europe’s sunniest island, Hvar and finishing the trip in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik.

Day 1 – Arrival to Venice

Start your Venetian experience off in style by arriving in a private water taxi. We’ll arrange a transfer by boat from Venice Marco Polo airport to your hotel in the city.

3 Nights in Venice

Honeymoon in Venice The romantic charm of Venice is unmistakable, a truly unique destination unlike any other. Built on more than 100 islands connected by a series of canals and overflowing with impressive palaces. On the surface Venice may not appear to be so grand in size but when you step foot in the car free streets and tight alleyways this maze of a city will leave you exploring for days. The city is packed with churches, museums and other sights of interests, with something new to discover around every corner and over every bridge. Suggestion: Venice: A City for Lovers Venice is a city of dreams and romance. A vacation here with your sweetheart will be a memory you’ll cherish forever. It’s hard to go wrong when you’re strolling along the canals in one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the world. You can enjoy a variety of excellent tours on land and water that will help you explore all of Venice’s secrets. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants and bars to visit, and the lights and live music on St. Mark’s square at night are just lovely. The atmosphere throughout the city is incomparable. Every little alley leads to some new discovery, and the ever-present sound of the sea is enchanting. But of course, no romantic visit to Venice is complete without a gondola ride. As you get close in your own private gondola, floating along on the gentle current as waves lap up against stairs leading to ancient palaces, you’ll know why Venice has always been a city for lovers.

Day 2

Optional: Introducing Venice: A Private Tour If this is your first time in Venice or you just want to get reacquainted with the city, we recommend our special three-hour private tour with a local guide. You’ll be picked up from your accommodation, then shown through the elegant Piazza San Marco, bordered by the governmental buildings of the ancient republic. Next you’ll stop into the St. Mark Church, and then enjoy a pleasant walk through the Castello district, the square of San Giovanni e Paolo and the Marco Polo house. From the top of Rialto bridge you’ll discover the splendors of the Grand Canal, and you’ll end in the market, where you can sip a glass of wine and enjoy some light bites. At the end of the tour your guide can take you back to your accommodation or suggest further destinations for exploration.

Day 3

Optional: Venetian Tapas & Wine Tour You’re in Italy so good food isn’t too far away if you know where to look. One of our favorite ways to get to know a city is by taking a food tour. We can highly recommend taking part in this small group tour and getting your culinary bearings set with an afternoon sampling ‘cicchetti’, the Venetian version of tapas, accompanied by wine at Venice’s best Bacari wine bars.

Day 4

On this day we will organize a water taxi to Venice airport from where you will take a direct flight to Split.

2 Nights in Trogir

Honeymoon in Trogir Trogir is a “city-museum” in every sense of the word. More than 2300 years in existence, the city provides lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and cozy alleyway streets an unforgettable setting. The old core of Trogir is an island surrounded by city walls which has been influenced by the Romans, Greeks and Venetians. The wider surroundings of Trogir are characterized by numerous islands and islets, lush green vegetation and beautiful rock/pebble beaches. We’ll arrange a private transfer from the Split airport. You’ll be greeted by your driver who will bring you directly to the charming city of Trogir, about a ten minute ride away. Our representative will then meet with you to answer any questions you have and to get you settled for the rest of your trip. Suggestion: Trogir for Two Trogir is a unique place to travel with a partner, because there’s just so much to do here, from enjoying delicious seafood and wines, to exploring the beauty of the city and the coastline. You’ll have something new to do every day. The beaches here are wonderful and after you’ve tried them, you could take a short water taxi ride to the quieter beaches of Ciovo, some of Croatia’s best. Driving up and down the coast is a great way to take in the natural majesty of the Adriatic, and there are several cute towns along the way, like Sibenik, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch of local specialties. The nearby Krka National Park is stunning, with waterfalls and gorgeous lakes you’ll like looking at as much as swimming in. This is the kind of place where you can do whatever you feel like, whether that’s lazing away the days on beautiful beaches, or getting active and exploring the gorgeous surrounding region.

Day 5

Optional: A Day Trip to Plitvice Lakes One of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the world, the crystalline bluish-green Plitvice Lakes, are just 2.5 hours from Trogir. No trip to the area is complete without a visit to this incredible UNESCO World Heritage site. We can arrange a private or group excursion for you, lasting all day. You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in the morning and driven to the lakes, where you’ll have a guided tour of the lakes and waterfalls and the rich plant and animal life. The tour includes a boat ride, walking, and a tourist train. At the end of the day, you’ll be driven back to Trogir.

Day 6

We’ll arrange a private driver to pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the port in Split. Here, you can store your bags and explore the Old Town and the wonderful UNESCO Diocletian’s Palace for a few hours – you can read more about Split on our website. While in Split, we will provide tickets on the ferry to Hvar, about a one hour journey.

2 Nights in Hvar Town

Honeymoon in Hvar Hvar is rich in history as it boasts, among other amazing features, the oldest communal theatre in Europe, the largest square on the Croatian coast and a medieval fortress dating back to the 7th century. Right off the town’s port you will find the Pakleni archipelago, consisting of 21 islands with isolated beaches and secluded coves, making for the ideal way to spend your summer days. If nightlife is what you are looking for, Hvar is known as the party capital of the Adriatic. MSN travel named it one of the top ten world summer party spots. All this makes it a must-see stop on your Croatia vacation. Upon arriving in the port of Hvar, you will be met and brought to your accommodation. Suggestion: Hvar for Lovers Hvar is one of the most romantic destinations in Croatia, where you and that special someone can take advantage of the beautiful natural setting to enjoy a magical time together. Hvar town is offers numerous spots to enjoy an unencumbered view over the skyline and out to the water. We’d especially recommend the Adriana Rooftop Bar, where you can enjoy excellent local wines, classic cocktails and delicious cuisine. Atop Hvar fortress you’ll have an even better vantage point of the entire town below and beyond to the Pakleni archipelago. And, since Hvar is surrounded by lovely countryside, you can also rent bikes and pedal out of the city to explore the fragrant lavender fields and picturesque vineyards, where of course you can sample some of the local vintages. It’s also easy to arrange a wine tour to really get a taste of all the regional varietals. A private sailing trip is another great option for a little alone time as the two of you can sit back and relax as a trained captain sails you to those nearby Pakleni islands, with quiet bays ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

Day 7

Optional: Private Pakleni Islands tour Today is a great day to charter your own boat and skipper to explore the Pakleni archipelago, with white sand beaches and quiet villages with delicious local restaurants. With your own boat, you’ll be able to make your own itinerary, exploring the many hidden coves and the picturesque coastline at your leisure.

Day 8

It’s an early start today for the only departure of the day to Dubrovnik, the city on the sea that you’ve heard so much about. Skipping a length ferry ride to Split and then a bus ride down the coast, instead you will speed along above the waves on a catamaran ferry. You will reach Dubrovnik around midday, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore in the afternoon. Alternatively, if you would prefer taking the opportunity to sight see along the way, we recommend our private transfer option. For an additional fee, we can arrange for a private driver to pick you up in Hvar and bring you straight to Dubrovnik. If you choose, you can stop along the way, perhaps to explore Ston, the oyster capital of Croatia, on the Peljesac peninsula.

3 Nights in Dubrovnik

Honeymoon in Dubrovnik Dubrovnik offers an unusual blend of modern culture and established tradition. Marble-like polished limestone streets, a labyrinth of alleyways and breathtaking architecture characterize the Old Town. Dubrovnik’s most stunning feature is the 82-foot tall city wall which extends more than a mile. There are many options for music lovers in Dubrovnik; concerts are performed daily and in July and August the Dubrovnik Summer Festival of music, theatre and dance is celebrated. The nightlife is also exciting with plenty of choices to keep you busy until dawn. When it comes to accommodation in Dubrovnik our wide choice of options covers all budgets from 3 star hotels to apartments all the way to 5 star luxury hotels, all located in and around the old city. We will arrange to have someone on hand at the port to greet you as you get off the boat and then transfer you to you Dubrovnik accommodation. Suggestion: Romantic Dubrovnik Dubrovnik is a one-of-a-kind coastal destination that makes a wonderful place to travel with your sweetheart. From real romance to outdoor fun, there’s something for every couple’s mood here, and the incredible natural surroundings will have you feeling like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. We have two favorite places to watch the sunset: Buza Bar, where you’ll have excellent cocktails and snacks and an incredible view as dusk comes on. The restaurant Restaurant 360° perched atop the city walls might be even more impressive, with unbeatable views of the city and the Adriatic. It’s one of the most incredible panoramas in the entire region. And, since the gastronomy here is so fresh and delicious, why not learn how to make it together at a special cooking class with a local chef. It’s a fun way to bond and have fun as you learn to create fresh seafood and grilled dishes then sit down to feast. Fans of TV’s Game of Thrones will already know Dubrovnik is King’s Landing in the series, so why not go on a Game of Thrones selfie tour, taking a kiss at each of the filming locations. Talk about unique postcards! A boat ride to nearby Lokrum is also very romantic, as you can really get back to nature on this pristine island, and sample some of the local food and wine.

Day 9

Optional: Get to Know Dubrovnik on a Private City Walking Tour Dubrovnik is truly a gem of the Adriatic. The city has been on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List since 1979. We recommend taking a private 1.5-hour walking tour of the Old City that will show you the old city including the elegant main street and its most important sites: The Franciscan Monastery, Onofrio’s Fountains, Sponza Palace, Orlando’s Column, City Bell Tower, Church of St Blaise, and Rector’s Palace. It’s an ideal way to get oriented in the city and set yourself up for further exploration. Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour with a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd’ to take in the views or get another view of the town by walking the ancient walls that surround the city. If you’d prefer to see Dubrovnik from afar then take a boat trip to Lokrum Island, an oasis of nature and tranquility just 10 minutes from the old town harbor. Optional: Elaphite Islands Exploration Today why not explore the Elaphite islands with a private speed boat and skipper at your disposal? You can enter and see some of the Elaphiti hidden caves, swim on sandy beaches and visit villages on the islands. Take a walk on the island of Lopud, with two monasteries, 30 churches and a number of ruined noble buildings. This tour is perfect getaway from the busy old city center and a great example of typical Dalmatian island culture. Beautiful spots for swimming, sightseeing, walking or just enjoying the sun on the boat or on the beach is all this day is about.

Day 10

Optional: Visit a neighboring country Today’s a great day to get out of the city and see something new. We have two equally unforgettable suggestions, Mostar and Montenegro. Located in a beautiful valley between the high mountains of Herzegovina about two hours from Dubrovnik, Mostar is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town is exceptional for its dwellings and monuments assembled harmoniously over the centuries, thanks to favorable geographical conditions and a sound economic climate. Mostar’s most famous landmark is an Ottoman stone bridge which connects the city in two parts over the Neretva River. Montenegro is one of region’s last undiscovered secrets. Located less than one hour’s drive from Dubrovnik, Montenegro offers an unforgettable experience; exceptional natural beauty in combination with a rich history and culture. You’ll enjoy the view above the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Kotor Bay with its numerous small settlements. It is a country of contrasts, the new and the old, the mountains and the sea, sun and snow and all of this a little more than a stone’s throw from Dubrovnik.

Day 11 – Departure

A driver will pick you up at your Dubrovnik accommodation and drop you off at the airport for your departing flight.
