11 Day Croatia Honeymoon Itinerary

A 10 night, 11 day honeymoon allows you to see the very best of Croatia’s coast and up to five of the country’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the old towns of Trogir, Split and Dubrovnik, the Plitvice Lakes National Park and the lavender fields of Hvar. As well as coastal stays you’ll also visit two of the country’s most impressive islands and all at a relaxed pace that means you’ll have plenty of time to yourselves to enjoy your newly-wedded bliss.

2 Nights in Trogir

Honeymoon in Trogir Trogir is a “city-museum” in every sense of the word. More than 2300 years in existence, the city provides lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and cozy alleyway streets an unforgettable setting. The old core of Trogir is an island surrounded by city walls which has been influenced by the Romans, Greeks and Venetians. The wider surroundings of Trogir are characterized by numerous islands and islets, lush green vegetation and beautiful rock/pebble beaches.

Day 1

We’ll arrange a private transfer from the Split airport. You’ll be greeted by your driver who will bring you directly to the charming city of Trogir, about a ten minute ride away. Free-time Suggestion: Trogir for Two Trogir is a unique place to travel with a partner, because there’s just so much to do here, from enjoying delicious seafood and wines, to exploring the beauty of the city and the coastline. You’ll have something new to do every day. The beaches here are wonderful and after you’ve tried them, you could take a short water taxi ride to the quieter beaches of Ciovo, some of Croatia’s best. Driving up and down the coast is a great way to take in the natural majesty of the Adriatic, and there are several cute towns along the way, like Sibenik, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch of local specialties. The nearby Krka National Park is stunning, with waterfalls and gorgeous lakes you’ll like looking at as much as swimming in. This is the kind of place where you can do whatever you feel like, whether that’s lazing away the days on beautiful beaches, or getting active and exploring the gorgeous surrounding region.

Day 2

Optional: A Day Trip to Plitvice Lakes One of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the world, the crystalline bluish-green Plitvice Lakes, are just 2.5 hours from Trogir. No trip to the area is complete without a visit to this incredible UNESCO World Heritage site. We can arrange a private or group excursion for you, lasting all day. You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in the morning and driven to the lakes, where you’ll have a guided tour of the lakes and waterfalls and the rich plant and animal life. The tour includes a boat ride, walking, and a tourist train. At the end of the day, you’ll be driven back to Trogir.

Day 3

You’ll depart Trogir today to explore the fascinating island of Vis. We’ll arrange for a transfer from your accommodation to the port of Split, a few hours before the ferry. This will give you time to explore the city’s Old Town – there’s a spot nearby to store your bags. Be sure to visit one of the most interesting sights in Split, Diocletian’s Palace. After sightseeing, you’ll head back to the port for the ferry to Vis, we’ll provide ferry tickets when you arrive in Split. Day Stop in Split The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD and built a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside the walls. These days there is an embankment in front of the palace but the water used to go right up to the wall. It’s on this man-made strip of land that you’ll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life.

3 Nights on Vis

Honeymoon in Vis Getting to Vis used to require being born there or drafted by the Yugoslav army. Now all you need to do is take a boat to the furthest populated island off the Adriatic coast. Due to its strategic position, Vis has always been coveted by Europe’s naval powers. Under Tito it became a military stronghold and the leftovers of this period are a major attraction. With its rugged coastline and nearby small islands there’s plenty of natural beauty to explore including the famous the Blue Cave on Biševo island, the Green Cave and some absolutely stunning beaches and hidden coves. When you arrive at the port in Vis, we’ll have someone waiting to take you to your accommodation. Free-time Suggestion: Vis: A Lovers’ Paradise Vis is an island with the good fortune of being rich with the gifts of nature. You and your lover can take advantage of the best this compact island has to offer, and have a wonderful time doing it. A wine and gastronomy tour is the best way to get acquainted with all the fresh flavors and hearty specialities of the local cuisine. You’ll meet the producers of the local artisan delicacies, learn more about the process and of course get to taste it all. Take a boat to the Blue Cave, which is certainly one of the Adriatic’s most stunning natural wonders and well worth a visit. We recommend heading to Fort George, above the town, for drinks at sunset. This is a truly beautiful setting, with a stunning view, the smell of pine trees and the sea, and stars bright in the sky. It doesn’t get more romantic than that. You’ll love your time together in Vis, where all the pleasures of the Adriatic are here for you.

Day 4

Free-time Suggestion: Rent Scooters and Explore the Island One of the most exciting ways to explore the island is to rent scooters, which you can do in the center of town. The rental agency can recommend different routes, but it’s pretty simple to navigate if you have a map. There are numerous villages and hidden coves throughout the island, so take a day to hit the road and see what’s out there. Optional: Wine Tasting & Gastronomy Tour Take this four-hour wine tour and you’ll see all the most original vineyards and meet the best vintners to taste their products like wine, spirits, olive oil, dry figs, and more. A guide will lead you inland to visit authentic vineyards, meet the islanders and to taste their products. At Hum, the highest point of the island and other unique locations you’ll sip amazing wine among gorgeous surroundings. It’s all in the passion and knowledge that comes from generations ago, blended with modern in very delicate way. To continue your day tasting the best of the island we can book you a table for a traditional lunch or dinner with gastronomic specialties in one of the best restaurants in Vis.

Day 5

Optional: Top Secret Military Tour There are plenty of historical military secrets on Vis, and today we suggest exploring them with our four-hour top secret military tour. You’ll have a local guide take you around the whole island and to the most hidden Yugoslavian military territory, so you can learn why Vis was once called “the forbidden island.” You’ll see everything from a radar base on the island’s highest peak to nests of military bases on the cliffs of the southern coast. But you don’t have to be a history buff to have fun, as you’ll get a glimpse of almost every region on the island.

Day 6

Today you’re off to Hvar, Europe’s sunniest island! There is a lack of direct ferry connections between the islands – once a week on Tuesdays only – so to ensure you make it to Hvar, the most reliable way is via private boat shuttle. Because of this, we recommend planning an ‘island day’. We’ll arrange for your captain to take you around the islands surrounding Vis, visiting both the famous Blue cave and lesser known Green cave, followed by a lovely lunch at a farmhouse on another island. An excellent way to make the most of your journey!

2 Nights in Hvar Town

Honeymoon in Hvar Hvar is rich in history as it boasts, among other amazing features, the oldest communal theatre in Europe, the largest square on the Croatian coast and a medieval fortress dating back to the 7th century. Right off the town’s port you will find the Pakleni archipelago, consisting of 21 islands with isolated beaches and secluded coves, making for the ideal way to spend your summer days. If nightlife is what you are looking for, Hvar is known as the party capital of the Adriatic. MSN travel named it one of the top ten world summer party spots. All this makes it a must-see stop on your Croatia vacation. On your arrival to Hvar port the driver will wait for you and drive you to your accommodation. Free-time Suggestion: Hvar for Lovers Hvar is one of the most romantic destinations in Croatia, where you and that special someone can take advantage of the beautiful natural setting to enjoy a magical time together. Hvar town is offers numerous spots to enjoy an unencumbered view over the skyline and out to the water. We’d especially recommend the Adriana Rooftop Bar, where you can enjoy excellent local wines, classic cocktails and delicious cuisine. Atop Hvar fortress you’ll have an even better vantage point of the entire town below and beyond to the Pakleni archipelago. And, since Hvar is surrounded by lovely countryside, you can also rent bikes and pedal out of the city to explore the fragrant lavender fields and picturesque vineyards, where of course you can sample some of the local vintages. It’s also easy to arrange a wine tour to really get a taste of all the regional varietals. A private sailing trip is another great option for a little alone time as the two of you can sit back and relax as a trained captain sails you to those nearby Pakleni islands, with quiet bays ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

Day 7

Optional: Off Road Tour Excursion Hvar is Europe’s sunniest island, a gorgeous combination of beaches and olive groves, fisherman and grape growers. There’s plenty to see, and a full-day off-road excursion is the perfect way to see it. You’ll be treated to an off-road tour through typical old villages, combining amazing scenery with authentic local charm. The unspoiled nature, panoramic views, and luscious groves are a sight to behold. You’ll enjoy the tour with your own local guide, stopping for a delicious lunch of Croatian delicacies along the way. Optional: Wine Tasting Tour There are numerous vineyards and a long history of winemaking in Hvar. Today we recommend getting a taste of the local vinous culture, with a fully guided four-hour wine tasting tour. You’ll stop at two wineries, where you’ll taste six different wines, along with two dessert wines. The tour is designed to be informative, and above all, fun.

Day 8

It’s an early start today for the only departure of the day to Dubrovnik, the city on the sea that you’ve heard so much about. Skipping a length ferry ride to Split and then a bus ride down the coast, instead you will speed along above the waves on a catamaran ferry. You will reach Dubrovnik around midday, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore in the afternoon. Alternatively, if you would prefer taking the opportunity to sight see along the way, we recommend our private transfer option. For an additional fee, we can arrange for a private driver to pick you up in Hvar and bring you straight to Dubrovnik. If you choose, you can stop along the way, perhaps to explore Ston, the oyster capital of Croatia, on the Peljesac peninsula.

3 Nights in Dubrovnik

Honeymoon in Dubrovnik Dubrovnik offers an unusual blend of modern culture and established tradition. Marble-like polished limestone streets, a labyrinth of alleyways and breathtaking architecture characterize the Old Town. Dubrovnik’s most stunning feature is the 82-foot tall city wall which extends more than a mile. There are many options for music lovers in Dubrovnik; concerts are performed daily and in July and August the Dubrovnik Summer Festival of music, theatre and dance is celebrated. The nightlife is also exciting with plenty of choices to keep you busy until dawn. When it comes to accommodation in Dubrovnik our wide choice of options covers all budgets from 3 star hotels to apartments all the way to 5 star luxury hotels, all located in and around the old city. We will arrange to have someone on hand at the port to greet you as you get off the boat and then transfer you to you Dubrovnik accommodation. Free-time Suggestion: Romantic Dubrovnik Dubrovnik is a one-of-a-kind coastal destination that makes a wonderful place to travel with your sweetheart. From real romance to outdoor fun, there’s something for every couple’s mood here, and the incredible natural surroundings will have you feeling like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. We have two favorite places to watch the sunset: Buza Bar, where you’ll have excellent cocktails and snacks and an incredible view as dusk comes on. The restaurant Restaurant 360° perched atop the city walls might be even more impressive, with unbeatable views of the city and the Adriatic. It’s one of the most incredible panoramas in the entire region. And, since the gastronomy here is so fresh and delicious, why not learn how to make it together at a special cooking class with a local chef. It’s a fun way to bond and have fun as you learn to create fresh seafood and grilled dishes then sit down to feast. Fans of TV’s Game of Thrones will already know Dubrovnik is King’s Landing in the series, so why not go on a Game of Thrones selfie tour, taking a kiss at each of the filming locations. Talk about unique postcards! A boat ride to nearby Lokrum is also very romantic, as you can really get back to nature on this pristine island, and sample some of the local food and wine.

Day 9

Optional: Get to Know Dubrovnik on a Private City Walking Tour Dubrovnik is truly a gem of the Adriatic. The city has been on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List since 1979. We recommend taking a private 1.5-hour walking tour of the Old City that will show you the old city including the elegant main street and its most important sites: The Franciscan Monastery, Onofrio’s Fountains, Sponza Palace, Orlando’s Column, City Bell Tower, Church of St Blaise, and Rector’s Palace. It’s an ideal way to get oriented in the city and set yourself up for further exploration. Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour with a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd’ to take in the views or get another view of the town by walking the ancient walls that surround the city. If you’d prefer to see Dubrovnik from afar then take a boat trip to Lokrum Island, an oasis of nature and tranquility just 10 minutes from the old town harbor. Optional: Cook Local If you have a taste for great food, we’ve got the perfect day for you if you opt for this cooking class. Today you will head out into the Konavle countryside. Here in a 500-year-old farmhouse, you’ll have a half-day cooking class that will teach you about local gastronomy as well as Croatian culture and history. Start by picking fresh vegetables from the garden, then prepare a four-course lunch or dinner with an expert chef. When you sit down to dine, you’ll also have excellent local wines and brandy. It’s a great way to get hands on with Croatian gastronomic culture, and have a great time doing it! If you need our local staff can arrange for transfers both ways, if you don’t have a designated driver.

Day 10

Optional: Elaphite Islands Exploration Today why not explore the Elaphite islands with a private speed boat and skipper at your disposal? You can enter and see some of the Elaphiti hidden caves, swim on sandy beaches and visit villages on the islands. Take a walk on the island of Lopud, with two monasteries, 30 churches and a number of ruined noble buildings. This tour is perfect getaway from the busy old city center and a great example of typical Dalmatian island culture. Beautiful spots for swimming, sightseeing, walking or just enjoying the sun on the boat or on the beach is all this day is about.
